My followers and frequent readers already know how I am so inclined with Creative Planning. I design my planner and makes me enjoy planning tasks ahead of the week. One thing I never forget to use are stickers. I go crazy over them whenever I see new designs from my favorite craft supplies store.

Just recently, I received sets of stickers and clips from Papermela (formelly, Bella Storia MNL). Papermela is an online (instagram and facebook) and etsy store. The owner/designer Domina Carmela started her business October 2013 under the label Hacked Craft. She later on closed due to priorities but reopened 14^th March of this year and renamed her store to Papermela. This shop now has collections of Chibi and Kawaii emoji stickers, paper clips, planner kit bundle and sticky notes.

Why I love the Kawaii Emoji Stickers

I am so excited to show you the beautiful kawaii stickers from this shop. I got the camera kawaii, shopping bag kawaii and laundry cleaning kawaii set. Here are reasons why I love them!

1. It Has an Effective Packaging

The stickers are sealed in a zip lock packaging inside a small brown envelope. This way, you are sure that even if the envelope gets wet, your stickers are safe.

2. These are the Stickers a Planner Enthusiast Needs

As a planner enthusiast, I prefer stuff that are related to planning. Papermela has most of everything you will be needing. For students, you can buy their tuition fee kawaii to remind you that you need to pay for your tuition fee already. For happy go lucky people, if you plan to have some me time – there is a shopping bag, pop corn, donut, coffee and green tea kawaii sets. You can also remind yourself when to pay dues as you can put your car bills, water bills and rent payment kawaii sets on your respective planners.

3. Great Print Quality

I printed my own stickers before but didn’t get the correct colour that resembles the image itself. I used a glossy sticker paper back then and some get smudged. The stickers I received are printed in matte sticker paper. The images are not blurred nor have spots. No smudges at all too. Surely, inks used are for high quality printing.

I also like the idea of using matte sticker paper. Matte is somehow near to the texture of an “oslo” paper. It makes the sticker look like not a sticker. Hahaha. I hope you get what I mean. It’s like it is printed or drawn on the paper of the planner spread itself. Plus, if you decide to have the planner sticker bundle, you will be able to write on the checklists and the weekly box sticker.

4. Easy to Peel and Perfectly Cut

I really had to compare these stickers to the flags and box edges design sticker I just recently baught. It’s hard to peel off and the edges are tearing. Very disappointing. Papermela’s not. The spaces between the stickers are in proportion that I think it’s the reason why each was cut evenly resulting to easy peeling.

So I said it’s perfectly cut. Why? Because there isn’t any part of the image that’s wrongly cut. I stalked the shop’s Instagram Account and saw the crafty owner/creator uses a Cricut Explore Air. To how that machine is being programmed to cut the stickers, I don’t know. I just believe Domina and the machine are bestfriends. Hahahaha!

Now let’s have a look on the clips.

Why I adore the clips

I orded two clips from their Etsy Shop. One is the Floral Dress Paper Clip and the other is the Vintage Floral Shoulder Bag. I always want things with a touch of pink. Bet it’s super obvious with the clips!

Clips are crafted by no less the owner of course. It’s a little embossed because there is a canvass underneath the die cuts. The whole dress and the vintage bag was smeared with a clear glue to make sure the die cuts are intact with the canvass and to keep the color from fading.

I attached the Floral Dress Clip on my Kikki.K Planner Dashboard. The Vintage Floral Shoulder Bag makes me easier to go to this week’s spread.

Overall, I am impresses with all that I received from that little brown envelope. We are now in the technology era. In this age, as we may all notice, a lot of things can be squeezed into your mobile phones or tablets. Calendars, tasks, memos and reminders apps are very much useful as it can all be opened and synced on these smaller devices. But in this digital world, there still has been a blossoming community of people who have found love again on using the “old school” planners and journals. And this is not just the simple use of it. Owners are incorporating it with art as what we call it today as creative planning.

The Art of Creative Planning

To start with, planners and journals are commonly being used to organize and keep track on plans. What not’s, to finish, to blog, to read and other to do’s are things planner owners would usually put on it. With arts and crafts tools come creative planning. Creative Planning is decorating planners while not losing its functionality.

On Instagram, you would usually see wildly used hashtags like #PlannerCommunity, #PlannerEnthusiast #PlannerGirl, #PlannerJunkie and more. These Instagram users are those who are in to this bandwagon. I have lived to think that the “bandwagon” word connotes negativity. It’s like you just want to jump in because it’s cool. Well, the planner bandwagon isn’t. It’s positive. It is worth a hobby to jump in.

The start…

I started doing this early last year. I am a scrapbooker. One time, I am filling my Belle De Jour Power Planner with magazine cut outs and stickers when I decided why not I do that for the rest of the planner’s pages. I looked for inspirations and to my surprised; this hobby has been going for quite a while already.

How do you do it?

Maybe you are asking what are the supplies planner junkies use to decorate their planners. How can someone call it creative planning? To start off, what are the [brand] planners that we have.? In my case, I have a BDJ Planner which I have been buying annually for 3 years already; I also have a Kikki.K Medium Cute Planner which I won from Pretty Planners Birthday Giveaway and a red generic journal I personally bought for 200 bucks at a local bookstore. I know for a reader who is not into this hobby would somehow raise their eyebrows and ask, “what’s the need to have more than 1 planner?” Let’s just look on my case. As a blogger, a specialist and a part time businesswoman, I need more than 1 planner to be sure everything gets done. Here’s how I use them. (NOTE: I am not suggesting to get more than 1 planner and journal. This is just how I want to be organized.)

BDJ Planner – tracking orders on my retail business, work related stuff, bills and expenses
Kikki.K – blog events to attend, birthdays (using the birthday inserts), lists of restaurants to visit (using Kikki.k’s Shops and Restaurants inserts), to blog, to do’s.
Generic Journal – as this is a journal, this is where I write my article/blog drafts.

There’s also a lot more brands of planners and journals in the market. Among the common planners my fellow planner enthusiasts use are Titta Witty Planner, Filofox FauxDori/Midori Travelers Notebook, Webster Pages, Happy Planner, Erin Condren, Hobonichi and Love Doki.

Inspiration

I asked my fellow planner girls on how they got inspired to be engaged to the hobby of decorating planners and the common reason is the love for cute stuff, scrap books and stationery. Some got inspired too when they saw their friends and relatives happily doing this hobby. Others started doing it when they saw random videos on YouTube and, simply because they just love writing, scribbling and crafting.

Ever since I was in high school, I’ve been always a collector of journals and stationery… I’ve seen a lot of ladies posting a picture of their planner layouts, I found it very.. Umm.. I can’t explain. Then I decided to buy a planner from Typo, and [eventually] created an IG account dedicated only to this hobby.

Why design?

For me, I design my planner because it makes everything personalized. I love looking at it especially that I know I did it by myself. Colors make my day lively. Especially bright colors. When you look at my planner, it will suggest to you a specific theme.

Being organized and creative combined

Creative Planning is a good way to show creativity. You get to enjoy scheduling your tasks ahead because you also enjoy designing and decorating. When people see my planner, I would usually hear comments like – “I used to do scrapbooking/designing before when I was young” or “I was too busy I don’t have time. ” We must admit that career women/men [of course! Creative planning is not just for girls] and parents are busy people. I am too. But that’s why a planner is needed. It will keep you on track so you will know which task(s) should be prioritized or not. I like scrapbooking/designing too when I was young. The time I missed doing scrapbooking a lot is the time I decided – why not incorporate it while planning? That way, I was able to rekindle my love for crafts.

Whenever there are company events, blog events, product launch or parties which host raffles – I never get called. That’s a sad fact, yeah? I just have to console myself by thinking that sometimes I win on blog writing contests. The saying is right. “You can never have it all!

For some of the readers who know me and follows me on Instagram and on my Facebook Page, I bet you have been seeing my posts about my Belle De Jour Power Planner. I love designing my planner -I take it as a hobby and a craft I am passionate about. I use stamps, washi/decorative tapes, designer paper, stickers and quotes using my own hand lettering. Last year, I joined a Facebook group of planner enthusiasts – The Planner Community of the Philippines. There, I knew that there are a lot of people who enjoy designing their planners, too. I also got introduced to online craft and planner shops which I can get supplies for my hobby.

Anyway, there are a number of giveaways sponsored by these online craft shops. They have some cool pakulo and mechanics (not the lottery or random picking raffles). This is the time I join such giveaways. Hahaha. Don’t have luck with lotteries or bunutan, eh! Fast forward, I joined Ms. Annie’s Birthday Giveaway. The 2016 Kikki.K Medium Cute Time Planner is just one of the many in the line of planners of Kikki.K. “Kikki.K” is a fast growing fashion stationery label which has boutiques at Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and HongKong plus an online web shop. It is owned by Kristina Karlsson who used her nick name “Kikki” and last name’s initial as the brand’s name.

This is my first time to have a Kikki.K planner and after I saw it, I can say it really looks so gorgeous. That’s the reason I joined the giveaway. For now, I am still afraid to bring it with me outside as it looks vulnerable because of the fabric cloth texture but what’s really good with it is it is a binder. I can use it even by next year! I just have to change the fills.

My prize is not just the planner, it also includes accessories. (Thank you so much Pretty Planners!) According to Ms. Annie, accessories for planners are sold separately. The accessories I got are specially designed for the Medium Cute but anyone can mix and match, though. I am so excited to use the paper tapes and gel pens!

The Anatomy

The one I got is in medium size (185mm x 140 mm). It has a stud closure and as you open it, you will see the front pockets for variety of use and the pen loop as well. The pockets are used by planner enthusiasts for notepads, clips and cards. Divider tabs are included to separate the agenda pages including the yearly, monthly and weekly pages. I loved that the Birthdays and Anniversaries pages are separated from the agenda pages. Come on, you know it’s hard to track birthdays and annivs by browsing every agenda page, right? Another feature I am sure I am gonna use always are the Shops and Restaurants pages. It will be perfect for tracking where to’s for my food blogs. Addresses, To Do Lists, Notepads and Expenses are heaven bonuses.

What’s the plan?

I have my BDJ Planner and I think I am gonna use it now as my work and on-the-go-planner. I’ll use my 2016 Cute Planner mostly for tracking my deadline for blog posts especially the food blogs starting now. Tracker for birthdays and events will mostly be used here. This planner will also make me do what I have been dying to do before – printing and making my own dividers! Also, it wouldn’t be a bother for me next year on what planner to buy, I just have to print fills and replace the old ones. Well, what’s better is I can personalize the fills!

I am in awe with this lovely planner! You basically have almost everything in one bundle, plus it is super handy! I am so thankful of being blessed to win this. Do you like it as much as I do?

When I was a kid, I used to attend birthday parties. And when parties are held at famous fast food chains like McDonalds and Jollibee I would always look for the paper mat with drawings and I’ll bring out my own set of crayons to color them. Children always enjoy coloring, who didn’t?

Nowadays, we somewhat associate crayons, colored pens and colored pencils to children. Fountain Pens, sign pens and ball point pens are for the adults. But who would have thought that adults’ once set aside hobby would be awaken with the surprising trend of Coloring Books for Adults.

Coloring Books for Adults is becoming a hit nowadays for being the stress relievers of busy and working adults. International book author and illustrators’ books became instant best sellers like Johanna Bastfords’ Secret Garden and Lacy Mucklow and Angela Porter’s Color Me Happy.

DEFINING ART THERAPY

We all know that Art Therapy is the use of art materials and the creative mind of the person to work on an artwork to express their feelings and emotions guided by a credited art therapist. And those who benefit in art therapy are people who needs it such as people having developmental, medical, social and psychological impairment [citation]. But, according to American Art Therapy Association, while they support the increasing adults who are unleashing their creativity using coloring books, it should not be mistaken to the professional art therapy services. AATA enumerated the benefits of coloring books as:

can reduce stress
can externalize focus and;
can redirect per-occupied minds

I have my own Creative Minds Coloring Book for Adults. I got it as part of my press kit from my recently attended event-Preciously Precious [blog post here]. Yes, it is free. When I got home, I browsed all the pages and that’s the time I got hooked with it. Creative Minds is published by Precious Pages which you can buy for only 149.75 pesos. It has different templates like Mandalas, animals, florals and other patterns. Before, I used to see colored Mandalas art posted on Facebook. As I search the web what is that trend all about, I then knew that it is a smartphone application with Mandala templates that you can color, that’s when I learned as well that the app is based on the easy flying off the shelves coloring books for adults.

For me, coloring the beautiful patterns is really stress-relieving. It has also made me get away from my dependence on digital world. I started with the elephant with lots of details and my focus was there. I also believe that it has used lots of my creativity on selecting different shades. I was relaxed and became like a child happily coloring my favorite cartoon characters. Don’t worry if it gets messed up, it’s okay. Just unleash your creativity and you will feel the sense of relaxation.
